This quick start guide will help you to create and use the Gauge control with a minimum amount of effort.
Adding a Gauge to Your SQL Server Report
To add a Gauge to your report, follow these steps:
- Create a new SQL Server Report.
-
Drag a Dundas Gauge for Reporting Services™ object from the Toolbox window, shown in Figure 1 below, onto the report in Layout view.

Figure 1: The Gauge control is found in the Report Items section of the toolbox. For instructions on how to add the Gauge control to the Toolbox, see the topic titled Installation and Requirements.
- Dropping the Gauge control onto your report will automatically launch the Dundas Gauge Wizard™ shown in Figure 2 below. In the Gallery
tab of this wizard, select the type of
main gauge to be created, as well as a theme for your gauge.
Figure 2: Use the Gallery Tab to select a gauge type and theme for your gauge.
- Use the Data tab to specify a dataset to use for your gauge, a pointer value, and if required, an optional data grouping field. It is worthy to note that if you intend to
use statistical formulas with your gauge, then you must set a data grouping on a field. The data tab of the wizard is shown in Figure 3 below.

- When all settings have been set, you can run your report.
