The Gauge Designer dialog is used to set the Gauge control's properties. It is organized by tabs, and is accessible via the control's context menu (displayed by right-clicking over the control and selecting the Properties menu item).

Figure 1: Gauge Designer dialog.
Notice that the display window to the right of the dialog will display a dashed rectangle around the currently selected gauge item
We highly recommend setting gauge properties using this dialog, since it is the simplest way to work with the Gauge control.

The tabs that are displayed as well as their content depend on the type of the main gauge, which is determined in the wizard (can be a circular gauge, linear gauge or an indicator). If applicable there will be "Circular Gauge Properties" and "Linear Gauge Properties" expandable sections in the Tab topics. |
String dialog properties can be either a string constant or a report expression.
| Tab | Description |
|---|---|
| General (gauge) General (indicator) |
Exposes general gauge properties such as colors, titles, and appearance properties. The content of this tab is heavily dependent on the type of the main gauge (i.e. circular gauge, numeric indicator, etc.). |
| Pointers |
Pointers can be added or removed, and their properties can also be set. This tab will not be displayed when an indicator is the main gauge object. |
| Scales |
Additional scales can be added or removed (except for the default scale), and appearance properties can also be set. This tab will not be displayed when an indicator is the main gauge object. |
| Ranges |
Ranges can be added or removed, and their properties can also be set. This tab will not be displayed when an indicator is the main gauge object. |
| Sub-Gauges |
Sub-gauges (this includes state and numerical indicators) can be added or removed, and their properties can also be set by launching another designer dialog. Sub-gauges cannot be added if the main gauge element (determined by the wizard) is a numeric indicator. This tab will not be displayed when an indicator is the main gauge object. |
| Advanced | Used for advanced functionality, with much of the control's API (e.g. properties) exposed in this dialog. To use the tab merely select an object and set its properties. |
| Actions | Determines the type of action taken when an end-user clicks on a the gauge element the tab is applied to (either a main gauge or sub-gauge). Possible actions are to jump to another report, jump to a bookmark within the report or jump to a URL. |
| Appearance |
Exposes appearance properties of numeric indicators, including digit color, separator color and width, etc. . This tab will only be displayed when a numeric indicator is the main gauge. |
| Filters |
Allows for filtering of the raw data before it is passed by SQL Server to the Gauge control. The functionality of this tab is identical to the Filters Tab of the Grouping and Sorting Properties dialog, except this tab displays a sample Gauge control. This tab will only be displayed when an indicator is the main gauge. |
| States |
Lets you define states and their appearance properties of a state indicator. This tab will only be displayed when the main gauge is a state indicator. |
